Frequently asked questions
When I first discovered shuffle dancing, I searched everywhere for quality instruction—workshops, private lessons, local classes. I contacted established dancers and studio owners, but came up empty-handed. Like many beginners, I was left piecing together knowledge from scattered online tutorials that moved too fast, lacked clear explanations, and didn't show proper angles. Not only was this approach frustrating, but I unknowingly developed poor form and incorrect technique. It took months to realize a crucial truth...
Learning to dance is like mastering any skill—you need structured foundations that build systematically.
This workshop exists because I wished it had existed for me. I've condensed months of trial-and-error into two transformative days that will:
Teach you the foundational five shuffle moves with proper technique
Give you a complete understanding of shuffle concepts, terminology, and styles
Provide a clear roadmap for your continued learning journey
Help you avoid the common mistakes that slow progress
Build your confidence to actually DANCE, not just practice moves
Most importantly, you'll leave knowing exactly how to continue developing your skills independently—what questions to ask, which tutorials to watch, and what to learn next.
After these two days, you'll have everything I know. All the tools, knowledge, and confidence you need to become the shuffle dancer you envision.
This isn't just a class—it's your shortcut past months of confusion and frustration, straight to the joy of dancing.
Perfect! You're exactly who this workshop is designed for.
Shuffle dancing is known as the "dance style for non-dancers," and we're specifically prepared to welcome participants with zero experience. No dance background required—in fact, I've found that dancers with formal training sometimes have a harder time learning shuffle's unique style.
This workshop is ideal for you if:
You have "two left feet" (or think you do)
Musical concepts like 4/4 time, 8-counts, or finding the beat feel like a foreign language
You're currently unfit or carrying extra weight
You worry you might be "too old" to start dancing
You have physical limitations but are willing to work within them
You simply want to learn to shuffle dance
Our hands-on approach provides extensive practice time and patient guidance at every step. Nothing brings me more joy than witnessing that magical "OH! I GET IT!" moment when everything clicks.
My mission is for every participant—regardless of starting point—to leave with a solid foundation and the confidence to continue their shuffle journey. This isn't just about learning moves; it's about discovering a transformative practice that benefits your mind, body, and soul at ANY age.
If you have the desire to learn, you're the right person for this workshop. Period.
Two things are pretty important to learning how to shuffle dance (either in a workshop or any other way):
(1) You must be able to hop on two feet and one foot. You don't have to hop high or jump, but you do need to get off the ground--about the same height as you would do for jumping rope.
(2) You must have the ankle strength to pivot toe-heel side to side. You don't have to be good at this yet; it will be a topic in the workshop, but you must not have a physical limitation that would prevent you from pivoting. For more information about pivoting, have a look at this tutorial: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aIfbuurqKds&t=21s
If you're concerned about your situation with regard to either of these items, please reach out. I'm happy to discuss it.
Absolutely not! We've carefully designed our workshop to balance active learning with essential rest periods. Every session includes instruction, practice, and—most importantly—REST. The last thing I want is for you to burn out in the first hour or two.
Our agenda thoughtfully alternates between practice and recovery time. Shuffle dancing engages both your mind and body, especially in the early learning stages, so mental breaks are just as crucial as physical ones.
You'll enjoy:
Structured breaks throughout the day
An extended lunch period
Freedom within sessions to sit and observe, practice at your own pace, or step out to grab coffee or a snack from our on-site café
This is YOUR time, and you're encouraged to use it in whatever way serves you best. Rest is CRITICAL for muscle memory development and joint safety. I'll be monitoring everyone closely and will actively encourage breaks when needed—your body's long-term health and learning success are my top priorities.
Remember: quality practice beats quantity every time. We're building sustainable skills, not pushing through exhaustion.
Your workshop registration includes:
Two full days of beginner shuffle dance fundamentals with me (Shanon)
Complimentary snacks and water throughout both days
A welcome package filled with fun goodies
Saturday evening Meet & Greet with appetizers and beverages
Optional Content Session featuring professional video footage (at your request) for your social media or to share with friends
Everything you need for an amazing shuffle dance experience is included—just bring yourself and your enthusiasm!

PHYSICALLY Focus on being as healthy as possible in your current state! Get plenty of sleep and nourish your body well. If you have any health concerns, please consult with your physician before attending.
Since this is a BEGINNER-level workshop, we'll progress at a comfortable pace. I'd much rather you arrive feeling healthy, energetic, and ready to move than attempt any crash preparations (aggressive dieting, zero-to-60 gym routines, etc.). Your joints and overall well-being are the priority.
MENTALLY Practice positive self-talk—I'm serious about this! If you've watched my videos, you know how crucial it is to maintain positive expectations and avoid a "failure" mindset. You can accomplish anything you set your mind to! Speak to yourself as you would to your best friend.
Remember:
You are not too heavy
You are not too broken
You are not too old
You are not too uncoordinated
You DO have rhythm (if you can clap to a beat, you can dance to one)
You are not too slow a learner
MINDSET Take a moment to reflect: "Why do I need this in my life right now?" Then answer honestly. Your personal "why" will fuel your journey throughout the workshop and beyond. 😊
Please wear comfortable athletic clothing that allows for movement.
Footwear is crucial—bring lightweight flat sneakers with a soft sole (no slick soles). Vans and Converse-type shoes are popular. Dancing shoes, such as Fuego Dance are ideal, but not necessary. (I wore cheap Adidas running flats from Costco for 2 years.) Please avoid max cushion sneakers like Hoka or platform/elevated sneakers. We will be doing a lot of lateral movement!
Bring:
Water bottle, if you prefer your own. We will provide single-use water bottles.
Small towel
Any personal items you need throughout the day
If you tend to get chilly, bring a sweater/sweatshirt for rest periods.
Once you register for the event, you'll receive an email for our Discord channel.
This space will include:
Additional workshop details and updates
Travel and hotel recommendations
An "introduce yourself" section to meet fellow dancers
A dedicated Q&A section for any questions
It's a great way to build community before we even step foot in the studio!
Our Policy: All workshop registrations are non-refundable and non-transferable to maintain small class sizes and ensure quality instruction for all participants.
Your Options: We understand that life happens! If you can't attend your scheduled workshop, you have two options:
Transfer to a different workshop date (subject to availability)
